A small group of Mutants (''The Long Road Home'' #6)
Mutants were a race of genetically altered humans created by Evil Ash Prime using the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis.
Exclusive to the continuity of Earth-818793, the Mutants first appeared in Army of Darkness (Volume 2): From The Ashes #1.
History
The Soldier had an extreme tolerance for pain, and even after losing a hand to Ash Williams, continued to track him across Detroit (From The Ashes #1)
Following the death of Ash Williams and the resurrection of Evil Ash, the Deadites held within the Mirror Dimension were soon set free to roam the Earth unchecked. While a majority of the world's population had become possessed by the undead spirits, a large number of uninfected humans still remained. Using their overwhelming numbers and dark magic, the Deadites enslaved many of the humans who had willingly surrendered. However, those who did not surrender were somehow transformed by Evil Ash Prime into a new sub-species dubbed "Mutants".
Very little is known about the age of the Mutants, though it appeared that they seemed to quickly adapt to the apocalyptic landscape which the Deadites had turned the world into, and created their own twisted version of the human-dominated society which preceded them.
After Ash Williams had returned from a journey across several different universes and used his blood to alter reality itself, the Mutants were erased from existence.
Physical Appearance
The Wetnip strip club employed Mutants of varying physical characteristics (From The Ashes #3)
The physical attributes of mutants varied from individual to individual, though one common trait seen by the majority (but not in all) was a sickly yellow and green skin tone. Other somewhat common features include horns, extra limbs and eyeballs, scales, tails, and additional breasts.
Notable Mutants
- "The Soldier": Allegedly a former green beret, "The Soldier" was the first Mutant encountered by Ash Williams upon his return to his native universe. A member of a small street gang (or "squadron", as he referred liked to call it) called The Jar Heads, The Soldier chased Ash across the wasteland after Williams had killed all the other gang-members following their attempted attack on him. Eventually, The Soldier joined forces with Ash (as he was one of the four members of Pappa Gamma's "Chosen"), but died after being overwhelmed by a hoard of Deadites outside Evil Ash Prime's penthouse.
- Pappa Gamma: With extensive knowledge on magic and the supernatural, the blind midget Pappa Gamma had received visions of the return of Ash Williams, and believed him to be the savior of the world. Gamma informed Ash that they were to gather a team comprising of Mutants to aid him in the inevitable showdown against Evil Ash Prime. He was killed by Evil Ash while trying to recite a passage from the Necronomicon.
- "The Changed Man": The four-armed "Changed Man" has a past shrouded in mystery, one which he seems reluctant to discuss with anyone. Realizing the error of his ways, he became a preacher and found salvation by turning to The Lord and all things holy. Saved by Ash from a crucifix hanging on the roof of a Detroit car dealership, The Change Man used the power of the Holy Bible to annihilate a swarm of Deadites during the siege on Evil Ash's building, and in doing so, sacrifice himself after being caught in an explosion of purifying light.
- "The Whore": The most human-looking of Pappa Gamma's "Chosen", The Whore's mutation gave her a split-personality disorder, with one personality being a timid little girl, and the other an aggressive and extremely violent fighter. Used as bait to infiltrate Evil Ash's penthouse, The Whore was decapitated while fighting the evil clone just as Ash Williams had made his way through the building.
- Wikkie: A timid teenager with a pet Bull Terrier named Balls, Wikkie was the grandson of the Under Zone's founder and first King. With the aid of Ash, he and Balls managed to defeat the Cleveland Dawgs and escape the stadium, back to the safety of the Under Zone. While Ash was initially declared the new king of the underground city, he persuaded "Grandpappy" to consider Wikkie as the leader, as the boy was "a bit more of the leader type".
- Boss Man: In the years that followed the Deadite uprising, the heavy-set Boss Man wandered the United States, bringing with him stories of "The Game" which he had set up around the country. The Boss Man eventually established the Cleveland Dawgs franchise in Ohio, forcing it's citizens to play the deadly tournament against their will. When Ash was captured outside of Detroit, the Boss Man came into possession of the Necronomicon and the Boomstick. Ash broke into the Boss Man's tower in the center of Cleveland Browns Stadium and stabbed the mutant in the head using his broken Metal Gauntlet.
Notes
- Many (though not all) of the Mutants were seen eating the barbecued flesh of the deceased players at the Cleveland Dawgs Stadium, implying that cannibalism was another side-effect of their genetic alteration. The Mutants which allied themselves with Ash Williams (such as Wikkie and his grandfather), chose to eat rodents and other animals instead of other Mutants.
