evildead

Hell is one of the alternate dimensions in which the damned souls of the deceased are sent after dying in the world of the living. Populated by the spirits of the dead and demons of all manner, Hell's inverse counterpart is Heaven, another plane of existence inhabited by Angels and pure souls.

Hell was first mentioned as a proper location within the Evil Dead mythology in the 2005 Army of Darkness Roleplaying Game, though it not make a physical appearance until Army of Darkness: Home Sweet Hell #9 in 2008.

History

There is very little information in regards to the history of Hell, such as it's original intended purpose or it's early inhabitants, though once source stated that Hell was the birthplace of the Deadites.[1] So far, there have been two versions of Hell visited by variations of Ash Williams, with each incarnation having a different series of events occur there and different inhabitants encountered.

Physical Appearance

Earth-818793

The version of Hell connected to the reality known as Earth-818793 is the more fleshed-out incarnation of the two known versions. Here, Hell is depicted as being broken down into different regions or territories, the most well-known area being Purgatory, a vast underground cave in which the avatars of The Seven Deadly Sins torture the souls of dead sinners in various dungeon-like chambers.[2] Another well-known demon called the Baba Yaga lived in Hell on a small wooden shack of a house which stood on chicken legs, allowing it to roam the underworld.[3]

One more region of note in this incarnation of Hell was a replica of the Knowby Cabin, located at the heart of a barren desert valley.[4] This home was inhabited by various versions of Ash Williams who had been teleported there to guard a gateway leading directly into the world of the living, more specifically, a gateway which led to the basement of Linda's childhood home circa 1979.[5] According to the last known incarnation of Ash to guard this passageway, every version of Ash Williams was destined to share the fate of protecting the gateway and keep evil from overrunning the Earth. This region was said to constantly morph and evolve, and eventually the cabin transformed into an elaborate cave system with various "viewing pools" of water which allowed inhabitants to look upon the world of the living.[6]

The Pit Infernal

Another universe, one in which Annie Knowby and her family's cabin fell into depths of Hell after banishing the Kandarian Demon, depicted the underworld as a spacious cave populated by various demons and spirits of the dead, which fell from the world of the living above.[7] According to Annie Knowby immediately upon her arrival, she noted that the air smelled of brimstone.[7] One landmark of note in this Hell was a large gateway which allowed one access back to the mortal plane of existence, though it could only be opened with the aid of the blood of a virgin and an incantation.[8] Another notable location included a demonic duplicate of the city of Las Vegas where Deadites roamed the streets.[9]
